Recruiting votes on each side of the political corridor gave the impression of a private mission for Musk, who hosted events on Twitter Spaces for 2 weeks with Republican presidential nominee Ron DeSantis and Democratic nominee Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

The billionaire often touted Twitter as “a spot where all voices are heard and where there may be a type of dynamic interaction that you simply don’t really see anywhere else.”

However, the strategy doesn’t appear to be working for the platform’s funds. Ad revenue has fallen 59% since Musk took over last October, and advertisers fear the app could turn into chaotic under the rule of the open-ended tycoon.

In the five weeks between April 1 and early May, Twitter ad revenue fell by $88 million from a yr earlier, based on documents reviewed by The New York Times.

The cash-strapped social networking site also often fell in need of its sales forecasts, sometimes by as much as 30%, with figures not predicting improvement anytime soon, the documents show.

In an effort to get monetary savings, Musk laid off half of the corporate’s employees late last yr, claiming the move saved Twitter $700 million in 2023.
