From there he went to Lending Tree where he worked from 2004-09. Married to a physician on the time, his wife accepted a medical residency in Ann Arbor, Michigan. “And I’m coping with a financial crisis here,” he said, referring to the Great Recession happening on the time. “I purchased a house in California and had about $300,000 to $400,000 the wrong way up and my wife moved to Michigan.”
He selected to follow his wife to Michigan, where he continued to excel. “I made a decision to maneuver to Michigan after being a California guy all my life,” he said. There he would take a job as a retail loan officer at Lending Tree. “I ended up on a top team,” he recalls.
After his wife accomplished her residency, the couple returned to California where their families lived. He found work at Green Light, which later became Nationalstar Mortgage. “I led the team for 18 months after which moved to LoanDepot, where for 14 months I managed a specialized department – redistribution and retention, a top production team and was promoted to vp of sales within the direct loans department.”
But then things took a turn.
“2018 got here and we lost about 25% of our sales staff and our top producers,” recalls Iskander. “We’ve had three cost cuts and things have really modified. LoanDepot faced a challenge and the environment became very difficult for loan officers – hours, waits. It just became a really harsh, combative environment that I didn’t really appreciate. So I talked a bit an excessive amount of within the meetings and it didn’t work out thoroughly – they ended up demoting me. I feel I named it as I saw it, however it doesn’t work thoroughly at LoanDepot where it’s “our road or highway”.
