The Washington DC townhouse where former President Barack Obama lived as a senator is on the market for $1.27 million.
The property is a two-unit multi-family residence, including the first-floor apartment where Obama lived. The townhouse is lower than a mile from the Capitol and offers access to the United States Capitol and the offices of the Senate and House of Representatives, in line with Mansion Global.
“It’s type of a modest home,” agent Linda Pettie of Coldwell Banker Realty told The Post, adding that location is every little thing.
Located on the east side of Stanton Park, Obama rented the premises when he was a senator representing Illinois from 2005 to 2008 – and while he was running for president.
“He lived on this apartment on the primary floor. And then the opposite a part of the home was rented out to another person,” Pettie added.
Moreover, the home overlooks the District’s famous spring cherry blossoms.
The principal unit, spanning the second and third floors, has two bedrooms and 1.5 bathrooms. Once inside, you may be greeted by sunlit living quarters. The kitchen overlooks Stanton Park.
Features include wood floors and a wood-burning fireplace. Patio doors from the lounge result in the rear iron deck, giving access to the backyard where there may be parking for one automotive.
Upstairs there are bedrooms, a completely equipped bathroom with shower/tub and a laundry room.
The first-floor apartment where Obama lived, listed for special listing, is a one-bedroom, one-bathroom unit currently rented for $1,500 a month.
The lease will run until the top of January 2024, the memo notes, adding that it “will provide a wonderful opportunity for potential rental income or flexible housing.”
In 2008, Obama, now 61, told 60 Minutes that the space had a “vintage, dorm, pizza, empty bottle vibe” and was teased that he was the one senator whose staff had higher headquarters in DC.
Former first lady Michelle Obama said she visited the apartment but never slept there.
“I’ve seen it long enough to know I’m not going to remain there,” the Princeton and Harvard graduate told 60 Minutes.
During Obama’s first presidential campaign, members of the Secret Service advised that it might be easier to control him if he was in a hotel, and he moved out.
