Alice Madness Returns creative director American McGee says he feels the identical “pain and anger” as many fans of the enduring action-adventure franchise after revealing that EA recently dropped a possible sequel to Alice Asylum. This is resulting from each fans’ and McGee’s hopes that a 3rd entry might see the sunshine of day, which does not appear to be the case anymore.
McGee has already confirmed that Alice Asylum has been abandoned by EA, which the publisher has called an “vital” a part of the library, despite its decision to not fund a 3rd entry. EA also doesn’t wish to sell the license in response to McGee, who he says still sees it as a core a part of its “general game catalogue.”
Now, McGee’s next statement acknowledges how fans of the series feel, but asks you to try to maneuver on as he himself does.
“I just wish to reiterate that I understand how hard that is for a lot of you,” McGee writes on Patreon. “I feel the identical pain and anger as a lot of you. And I understand that in such situations we frequently ask ourselves “what can we do?” or “what could now we have done otherwise?” to alter the result. It’s hard to confess it now, but ultimately we’ll have to simply accept that this decision and the situation generally is out of our control.”
The last game within the series was 2011’s Alice Madness Returns, and the Alice Asylum game bible and narrative outline have since been publicly uploaded, neither of which became the total game.
“We don’t ‘hand over’ any greater than an individual hit by a bus doesn’t ‘hand over’,” continues McGee. “We did every little thing we could as a team and fanbase to persuade EA to make this next chapter occur. EA decided to kill the project and the potential for any future for Alice. This decision is as much as them.
“But we will make our own decision – and it’s a powerful decision – to maneuver on. This is what now we have in our power. And it’s often considered one of the toughest decisions to make in these situations. But that is what now we have to do. So I’m asking you to affix me in moving on. If you select to remain behind and proceed fighting…that is positive. It’s your decision. I respect this. I also ask you to respect my decision to maneuver. Thank you.”
Alice Madness Returns has already had its own tumultuous history through the years along with Alice Asylum being canceled multiple times and skim on Steam. You can read McGee’s full statement at Patreon (By Eurogamer).
While the Alice Asylum Bible continues to be online and you possibly can play the previous two games – American McGee’s Alice and Alice Madness Returns – every time you wish, it doesn’t seem like a 3rd game is ever going to occur.
