Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn’s breakup proves that love can flow its course

over the weekend Entertainment tonight reported This Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn they broke up after six years of dating. While Swift, 33, and Alwyn, 32, haven’t confirmed the split themselves, a source “near Swift” confirmed the news. CNN saying, “Taylor and Joe broke up just a few weeks ago. They’ve just grown apart and plan to remain friends.”

Despite the amicable ending, the breakup shook Taylor Nation to its already emotionally shaky core:

But unlike Swift’s other breakups, this one seems a bit more painful. While Alwyn and Swift deliberately kept their relationship a secret, the little glimpses we were capable of get into their partnership showed a pleased, healthy and powerful couple. Alwyn also inspired “Lavender Haze” on Swift’s final studio album Midnights.

“My relationship for six years, we needed to avoid weird rumors, tabloids and just ignored it,” Swift said Entertainment tonight. “So this song is form of in regards to the act of ignoring those things to guard the true things. I hope you prefer it.

The web has trouble processing how a relationship can encourage songs like “Lavender Haze” only to finish just months later, especially because Swift and Alwyn obviously did every part right.

They kept their romance only between themselves. They protected the “real things” and loved with deep intent and commitment.

And yet they still didn’t work.

But perhaps that is okay. Because perhaps love is not about how long it lasts or if it has potential endlessly. Perhaps the very best love stories are those we were still brave enough to put in writing despite their expiration dates.

Just because something ends does not imply it didn’t matter or doesn’t matter. Love doesn’t all the time need to crumble spectacularly for it to finish. Sometimes it just has to work. And when love leaves, perhaps some of the romantic and loving things we are able to do for ourselves is to let ourselves go when the time comes.

But not all hope is lost. Because, as Swift once said, love is like daylight. It all the time comes again.
