Sandy Pena, a marriage consultant and owner of Manhattan-based Ultimate USA Weddings, said she has noticed a rise in quick weddings by couples who’re “less detail-oriented and more spontaneous.” Of the 90 weddings booked by her last 12 months, greater than half got here from last-minute inquiries. “Many couples said, ‘We’re coming to New York next month. We need to get married. You will help?'”
The establishments also receive calls from couples inquiring about availability at short notice.
“With Covid making it harder for people to get married and so many places filled up well prematurely, couples at the moment are calling within the hope of an unexpected opening or cancellation they might step into, which is an incredible way for us to reap the benefits of unsold dates,” said Kelly Carrigan, owner of Carrigan Farms, a 275-acre fruit and vegetable farm in Mooresville, North Carolina. “We are superb at fulfilling these requests.”
The couples’ requests included finding a clerk, a florist, a photographer, a farm meal, and entertainment for between 10 and 300 people. Prices range from $100 to $170 per person with additional services.
“We have loads of connections within the industry and we are able to pick up the phone and have people here in three days,” Ms Carrigan said. “As farmers, we’re not a tight-knit people, and weddings like this are not any longer considered unusual.”
Jennifer Rowe, director of event sales and operations at Fairmont San Francisco, said that because “short-term weddings,” as she calls them, are inclined to be smaller, the venue is more flexible. “They can occur in additional unique spaces in a hotel, comparable to our penthouse, which has amazing views and may accommodate 60 people,” Rowe said.
