Call of Duty is the newest to detect and ban XIM cheaters

Activision cracks down on cheating third-party hardware Call of Duty: Warzone AND Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II. Devices equivalent to XIM, Cronus Zen and ReaSnow S1 are widely utilized in Call of Duty to permit mouse and keyboard users to enjoy the advantages of aim assist and reduced recoil from the controller combined with the advantages of mouse and keyboard movement. Activision has now updated its Ricochet anti-cheat system to detect and eventually suspend or ban players using this third-party hardware.

“These devices act as an adapter for PC and console controllers, and when used inappropriately or maliciously, can provide the player with a chance to realize an unfair gameplay advantage, equivalent to reducing or eliminating knockback,” explains the Richochet team in today’s blog post.

The Ricochet anti-cheat system initially displays a warning to players it has detected using this hardware. “Continued misuse of those devices may result in additional strikes, remedies, account or feature suspension, or banning of the infringing account in all Call of Duty titles, in accordance with our Security and Enforcement Policy,” says the Richochet team.

Activision’s crackdown comes just weeks after Ubisoft announced it could start messing around Rainbow Six Siege players who cheat by utilizing XIM or similar devices to spoof controller input. Players who cheat Rainbow Six Siege those using third-party devices will notice higher input lag that can interfere with their goal. Disconnecting the devices will restore normal latency.

Epic games too began issuing everlasting bans for players using Cronus Zen and Cronus Max last yr, but scammers have found ways to bypass Epic’s detection system. Epic Games, Ubisoft and Activision at the moment are in a continuing game of cat and mouse with the developers of this third-party hardware. The hardware is designed to be undetectable, and the gaming industry has not found an ideal solution to combat these devices.

Destiny 2 AND Overwatch each also suffer from scammers using these devices. “This is something we’re currently investigating,” Bungie said Edge in February, but the corporate has yet to announce its own detection system Destiny 2.
