We overcome leadership uncertainty by preparing. Spiritual preparation involves conscious, regular, and deliberately focused study of God’s Word. Paul, w 2 Timothy 2:15, he wrote to “study to prove God approved, a employee who needn’t be put to shame by rightly distributing the word of truth.” The home spiritual leader must do the “spiritual push-ups” to be prepared to steer and teach the family who’s entrusted with leadership.
If we attempt to conduct a family Bible study the best way we did an oral report on a novel we didn’t read within the eighth grade, there can be loads of uncertainty. When we are usually not prepared enough, we start with self-doubt. Lack of preparation gives fertile ground to the devil and all his insecurities that undermine all confidence. Intellect and education don’t have anything to do with this readiness. The Holy Spirit guides, guides, and instructs the person doing the work of the Lord. IN Hebrews 13:21 we’re given the promise that God will “provide [us] with every good thing, that you might do his will, working in us that which is pleasant in his sight.” The Holy Ghost gives an understanding and spiritual discernment that goes beyond the curriculum of any public school system or degree award.
IN James 1:5we learn, “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it is going to be given him.” The ability to spiritually understand and communicate scriptures and doctrines is just given by the Holy Ghost through our faithful prayers for courage and guidance. How Psalm 23 reminds us that God is our good shepherd, the spiritual leader of the family is its shepherd. This role requires that we pray to steer our families in righteous paths through the Spirit and Word of God. Moreover, we’ve got certainty, as Paul wrote 1 Thessalonians 5:24“He who calls you is faithful and can do it.” We can make sure that we can be prepared for the position for which we’ve got been appointed.
Prayers are essential for our protection and preparation. William Gurnal wrote that “the armor of a Christian will rest if it isn’t renewed with the oil of prayer.” Prayerful reading and study of the Word is supported by conscious meditation. David signed in Psalm 1:2 that the blessed man “delights within the law of the Lord, and meditates on his law day and night.” So our preparation consists in reading, studying, and meditating on God’s Word, and in earnest prayer for the complete realization of His guarantees.
