Sacre Boulud! Famed chef to bring back beloved cafe on Upper East Side

Upper East Side foodies are thrilled that Daniel Boulud just signed a lease to open a latest restaurant at 100 E. 63rd Street.

Boulud’s Dinex Group and an unidentified French partner have signed a deal for about 5,000 square feet on the corner of East 63rd Street and Park Avenue, which has been home to many positive restaurants over the past century. Most recently, it was Altamarea Group’s Vaucluse, which closed after the beginning of the pandemic.

“It’s very exciting for me,” said Boulud, who has desired to revive Cafe Boulud because the original closed. “It will remain a destination for locals, foodies and our loyal customers,” he said. The restaurant will open this fall.

Cafe Boulud was previously positioned on the Surrey Hotel on East 76th Street. It was forced to shut for good in May 2021 when the hotel went bankrupt and was taken over by Britain’s Reuben Brothers who plan to reopen it under the Corinthia Hotel flag. Mr. and Mrs. Reubens install the private club Casa Tua, where the restaurant was positioned.

Cafe Boulud’s a la carte menu was cheaper than Boulud’s prix-fixe offering at Daniel’s flagship restaurant on East sixty fifth Street, however it was way more than a “café”. A variety of excellent chefs whom he has chosen to run the kitchen have made it a favourite place for lovers of recent French and international cuisine, in addition to the inhabitants of town.
