She looked sexy and he or she knew it. Blond. rounded. Suede high heels with a much too short leather skirt. Bewitching green eyes and an identical killer smile. She wanted the eye of everyone within the room and boy, she got it (including mine).

She pushed her way through the group, giggling with one group after which the opposite. Finally, she approached a bunch of men, one in every of whom was my husband. Before she left, she patted his shoulder along with her graceful, manicured hand—possibly just a little an excessive amount of.

Really?

She probably didn’t mean anything, but after the party, my husband and I discussed the situation, had a little bit of amusing, and moved on. Although it happened a few years ago, I’m glad we decided to discuss it and reassure one another as an alternative of pretending it didn’t occur. Recognizing and talking concerning the things (or people) that would sabotage our marriage helps us protect it.

I wish we might done it more.

After 31 years of marriage, I actually have learned many things to not do, each by watching others and by making many mistakes. And I’m still learning. With each anniversary, my appreciation for our beautiful, bizarre, and sometimes removed from perfect relationship grows. I need to guard what we have now and work to make it higher.
